66% of Boomers in Study Use Cannabis and/or CBD Daily
Cannabis culture is often associated with young people. However, a recent study indicates that many boomers use cannabis and CBD products daily.
The study by Alzheimer's and long term care expert Lisa Cini involved over 11,000 boomers (people born between 1946 and 1964). Over 80 percent of the respondents said they used cannabis or cannabis-derived products for recreational and medical purposes. Also, 66 percent of the respondents said that they use marijuana and/or CBD daily, and insist that it is a vital part of their lives.
Although this study focuses on boomers, it is well-known that seniors (boomers and Gen X) use CBD products. They are thought to prefer CBD and hemp products because they do not have the psychoactive effects of marijuana.
Massive CBD Market
The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the sale of hemp and hemp-derived products in the U.S. Over the past few years, scores of CBD companies have been launched. There are so many CBD products on the market that it is almost impossible not to find something that you'd want to try out. The CBD industry is expected to be worth over $2 billion over the next five years.
The appeal of CBD is not limited to seniors but also to the younger generation. A study by Chicago's CBD Marketing showed that boomers, Gen X, and millennials all used CBD. In the study, researchers analyzed 1.3 million social media posts between January 2018 and January 2019. At the end of the study, the researchers found that boomers and millennials made 41 percent of the posts, while Gen X accounted for just 18 percent of the posts.
Claims About CBD: What You Need to Know
The alternative health industry is buzzing about the potential of CBD. There have been so many chatters about how CBD might work with several illnesses that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued warning letters to three companies that sell CBD products. In the letter, the FTC urged the companies to review their advertising materials and ensure that it is backed by trustworthy scientific evidence.
While there have been some promising studies about the potential health benefits of CBD, it is not a replacement for any medically recognized treatment option. Some people have billed CBD as the miracle cure for all types of ailments that affect seniors. But this is not necessarily the case. If you are a senior and you plan to use any CBD product, consult your doctor first. CBD is healthy, but it may not be good for you. Everyone's health status is different. For example, if you are on any medication that is known to interacts with CBD, it will be ill-advised for you to use any CBD product.
With that said, if your doctor gives you the green light to use CBD, it is a great supplement. There are many CBD products that you can choose from, including capsules, tinctures, edibles, flowers, drinks, and more.
